Restart programme

As the world’s population grows, the pressure on natural resources and the environment is set to increase. Today in Europe, 95-97% of used carpets are either dumped into landfills or burnt in incinerators, leading to the destruction of valuable raw materials.

At Tarkett we help our customers to manage their carpet tile waste while contributing to safeguarding the world’s natural resources and protecting the environment. We offer our clients a take back programme called ReStart, to ensure that carpet products will be recycled according to the Cradle to Cradle® principles.

Products will be taken back by Tarkett after their useful life, and will be safely recycled into new carpet products, or used in other recycling initiatives. By sourcing positively defined1 raw materials, introducing new manufacturing methods and collecting used carpets from clients, we are doing everything we can to achieve a closed loop process (from production to use and back again).

Besides our own carpet products, we also encourage the international collection of all types of used carpet tiles.

1) Positively defined = all ingredients have been assessed as either Green (optimal) or Yellow (tolerable) according to the Cradle to Cradle® assessment criteria. As described in Cradle to Cradle® Certified CM Product Standard Version 3.0.
